Final Destination 5

½

This is just the last one. I'm glad that this is the final one because I feel like the last three movies of this series are all remakes of one another with barely anything original. Each one has the same plot and hits the same beats. The difference here is that the characters are all adults and it delves slightly into the characters personal lives. The deaths are interesting, gory, etc. I appreciate the return of death as a character (also known as the coroner). This one has an antagonist and better music but still is not enough. There is a new mechanic and if I'm being honest, the ending is almost as good of a wrap back around as Saw VII's ending. Added a little to the score because the ending is so good.

The Final Destination

More interesting characters but they've given up. The third act of the film is long and unnecessary everything before that is basically each other movie beat for beat. The gore is just as high and odd, there are just as many twists and turns. The originality is pretty much lost at this point and I don't feel like the series is actually progressing further.

Final Destination 3

Here is where the series starts to go downhill. The nudity is turned up, the gore is turned up, it becomes everything that you hear about when you think of Final Destination. There is yet another new mechanic introduced to the series. It follows characters that are fine, nothing special but a little more obnoxious with more personality. There are a couple Easter eggs here too.

Final Destination 2

This movie is a good follow up to the original. It introduces new mechanics in regards to death. The movie has a beginning that feels like a horror but again is not a horror film. The use of a character from the previous movie creates interesting scenarios but seems like it may have been the creators taking an idea from Saw II. Still not as much gore as I'd think but a little more than the original. The characters are more cooperative but their backstories are not as interconnected to one another (except they kind of are).

Final Destination is a fine movie for all the criticism it gets. The movie is based around an interesting premise and is executed well. It is fun to see the characters struggle to figure out what is happening and the trope of the characters running from the cops being blamed for murder works well. The deaths are creative as expected but not as gory as one would think. The movie has that B-horror feeling but is definitely not a horror movie. The mysterious man who helps our cast does not get enough screen time.
