Operation Finale

This movie was not what I was expecting. It's a story not typically mentioned in the basic course of Holocaust history, but it's an important story nonetheless. The plot and portrayal of the people from the period were very well-done and full-spirited. I was swept into the story completely and was on the edge of my seat for much of the movie. There were a few times the plot jumped in a confusing way and a few of the people that seemed to have a major importance at the beginning but whose story became less and less pronounced by the end. I also wish that it had a somewhat different tone throughout because in some ways the tone reminded me of a movie like "Argo." However, this movie is well-worth a watch.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

What can I say? Yet another superhero movie. When they push out as many as they do, they become less and less interesting. This was a very typical superhero movie. Nothing about its predictable plot, mediocre graphics, lackluster action, or run of the mill love story made this movie stand out at all. I couldn't for the life of me remember a thing about the first Ant-Man and I predict this movie will have an even worse fate in our memories. What's sad about this whole franchise is that it feels like a Deadpool knockoff. It aims for the same comedy/action blend but it lacks the charisma, comedic timing, and the off-color humor we have grown to prefer in Deadpool. Overall, watch it at home if you're bored, but it's not worth theater prices.

Gotti (2018)
20 months ago via Rotten Tomatoes

My Dad loves mob movies! And I was excited to watch one too. Backroom deals, hits, laughing in the face of the law. And although on paper, all of it was there, the great action scenes were a little - dry. This movie is a lot more like a typical biography (perhaps even a made-for-TV one) than it was an awesome true-life mob movie. If you know little about the Gotti story, nothing will make sense. Characters are not fully developed and the plot jumps and skips decades at a time. And worst yet, if you do know the story, there's nothing new, nothing exciting left about it. John Travolta's acting is believable but he's just soo John Travolta that it is hard to see past the actor himself. All of the supporting cast could honestly be replaced - even mid movie - and no one would notice. This movie had no peaks or valleys. It was a dry, historical recount of the life of John Gotti and really nothing to make it worth a blockbuster experience. Overall, I would not recommend watching this movie. 0/5

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Not good. Just not good. The first Jurassic World was pretty epic and I really liked that movie. But they did not design it so that it was a trilogy-type movie. Of course there were common themes throughout, but it really felt more like a cash-grab sequel than an epic continuation. But definitely the worst part was that we didn't know who to root for - people or dinosaurs. This ruined the entire movie. The dinosaurs were straight up eating people but the movie was written so that we would feel sorry for them. It's really confusing because we don't get a solid feel for if they are mistakingly empathizing with dangerous animals or if that's really how they feel. Just confusing and stupid. The acting was pretty bad too. And some seriously cheesy lines - like really cheesy. And new characters that acted like we somehow already knew them. It was weird. Overall, a let down. Although, since there was not much advertising, I had very lower exceptions. This was even worse than the low exceptions. Watch it for the action and graphics though. Just don't pay for it.
