The Blackcoat's Daughter (February)

½

Fantastic acting, truly eerie. This movie is all about tone and building suspense, rather than cheap jump scares and special effects. It never states the obvious, never treats the audience as stupid, rather it leads you to read between the lines in a natural and satisfacting way. Before the end you will understand all there is to understand, without giving away what is going to happen next.
Brilliant debut for Oz Perkins (Anthony Perkins' son) as director.

Apart from the shocking value and the violence, it is a movie psychologically so complex and open to so many interpretations to resemble real life.

The Seventh Seal (Det Sjunde inseglet)

½

It is hard to talk about a movie that has been so thoroughly analyzed and praized over the decades. The directorial choices are flawless, the acting quite theatrical (in a good way) and the content profound and always contemporary, despite taking place in the middle ages and being made over 60 years ago.

Bad Santa 2
Bad Santa 2 (2016)

Still refreshing and somewhat "brave" compared to the political correctness dominated comedies Hollywood makes these days, it lacks the originality and the quality of its predecessor.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Gary Oldman impressive as always, and as it always happens, I recognized him only upon reading his name in the ending credits. But he's only one of the many parts that make this movie function on most levels, including a few real directorial pearls like the mirror scene, and as in all Harry Potter movies, its tone.
