Veep: Season 2 (2013)

Critic Consensus: In Veep's second season, the satire is sharper, the insights are deeper, the tone is more consistent, and the result is a comedy of unexpected heft.

Tv Season Info

In the second series of Armando Iannucci's Emmy-nominated comedy, U.S. vice president Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) has retained the same inner circle, including chief of staff Amy (Anna Chlumsky), personal aide Gary (Tony Hale), communications director Mike (Matt Walsh), deputy communications director Dan (Reid Scott) and personal assistant Sue (Sufe Bradshaw), and they all still love to gang up on hapless White House liaison Jonah (Timothy Simons). But this time around Selina is allowed a bit more access to the president, though senior strategist Kent (Gary Cole) and chief of staff Ben (Kevin Dunn) do their best to keep her at arm's length. In other developments, Selina clashes with the Secretary of Defense (Isiah Whitlock Jr.) during a hostage crisis in Uzbekistan; is grilled by a journalist (Allison Janney) during an interview at home with her daughter, Catherine (Sarah Sutherland), and ex-husband, Andrew (David Pasquesi); flies to Helsinki to work on a trade deal; and wonders about taking another shot at the White House.

ouis-Dreyfus's performance - which, like Congress, can be divided into two houses, Crackling Charm and Hysterical Ego-still drives the show, but we're getting a more realistic sense of political gamesmanship.

The show wrapped up a very strong second season with a typically funny episode that also, surprisingly, actually changed the overall storyline for the show in a notable way going forward.
