Critic reviews for Back From the Future: Part One
As we move into the second half of a season which some might consider patchy, Supergirl has gained a much needed second wind. Peppered in between the set pieces, character beats and conniving skulduggery sits a plot which is gaining momentum.
This episode makes me optimistic for the future of the Super Friends, and a lot of that has to do with Winn's return and the bits of future-knowledge he brings with him.
Overall, Winn's return was just a reminder of how great Supergirl used to be. Yes, it still has its moments with a ton of great characters, but there has just been something missing.
It feels like the bulk of the hour is treading water, narratively speaking, while Brainy lurks around in the background acting strangely and everyone does their darnedest not to notice.
Coupled with some innovative action sequences and the long anticipated return of Jeremy Jordan (in a dual performance!), "Back From The Future-Part One" is a table setting episode in the best sense of the term.
