[Ramy] is another strong yet artfully subtle example of what this emerging genre can accomplish.

Ramy thus takes the oldest of premises... and infuses it with situations that give the series life and depth.

In terms of the stories it chooses to tell,... Ramy feels like nothing else on TV.

Sometimes surreal, sometimes achingly realistic, Ramy will break your heart and build it up again.

Ramy is as funny as it is important as Ramy Youssef juggles with culture, religion and being Egyptian-American in New Jersey.

Ramy is a comedy, and it's a good one, but its clear priority is to have the jokes emerge from the characters being so carefully drawn, and from the worldview so frankly explored.

There's a lot of love about Ramy. It's lead is highly entertaining, and the show does follow the cardinal rule of sitcoms which is funny first and funny always.

One of the biggest strengths of "Ramy" is that, contrary to the narrow focus of the show's title, the show goes out of its way to flesh out other characters beyond Ramy himself.

With a talented, singular voice at the helm that's smart enough to highlight as many universal truths as foreign concepts, Ramy is yet another shining example of why Hollywood needs to keep propping up new, distinct voices.
March 12, 2019
"Ramy" resonates because it treats its characters' lives with the utmost compassion.

Youssef knows exactly how much to ask of himself as an actor and his performance is likable, generous and present, not quite the straight man, but happy to settle back and let his co-stars get the big reactions.

Ramy executes its male narratives with wit and precision. It's unfortunate that, so far, the show fails to demonstrate that Muslim women's stories can be more than a sympathetic canvas of unfulfilled dreams.
