Party Down is a great idea inadequately enlivened by desperation.

Friday's premiere is fairly lackluster with few big laughs or knowing snickers.

The warning bell is that since the team begins as caricatures, the show could become a string of situation jokes.

This companion to Starz's half-hour Head Case represents a warmed-over buffet of bite-sized moments, mostly devoid of flavor.

"Party Down" is the far superior series to that watered down and tarted up Dr. Katz.
May 15, 2018
Sharply written and spoiled for terrific performances and fun guest stars, Party Down is a sardonic, sometimes shocking, always funny comedy treat.

There is plenty of sparkle to be had in the core cast bouncing off an ever-changing group of boozed-up clients, but it's when the regular characters spend time with each other... that Party Down really comes into its own.

Somehow these gifted Party Downers have combined utopian dreams with merciless satire, and not shorted either one.

One of the best TV pilots ever produced.

Even with its more foolish characters, the show makes a case-comical but still resonant-that underneath the ill-fitting button-down caterer's shirts and pink elastic-band bow ties are real people.

Party Down is definitely worth more than a look.

The combination of talented, clever writers mixed with a group of humorous and fairly underrated actors has given me another excuse to call up my cable provider and subscribe to Starz.

Party is a loose, silly comedy about an L.A. catering company staffed by people with the sensitive egos... The show is like a milder Reno 911!, with crudités instead of cops.

Does for cater-waiting what Taxi did for driving.

A very funny series that any cable channel would be lucky to have.
March 20, 2009
Party Down is the first of Starz's original series that has me wanting to subscribe for any reason other than the movie package.

Part of the charm of this frequently deft series about the employees of an L.A. catering firm is that some of the characters are too dense or too innately optimistic to understandthat they're probably never going to make it.

Lurking behind the surface of this raucous comedy is an astute meditation on the promise and peril of leading an unconventional life, something about which aspiring actors know a thing or two.
May 15, 2018
The cleverly cast ensemble of working actors has solid chemistry, and the show is sure to appeal to fans of similarly quirky comedies.

Because each episode will allow these characters to interact indifferent locations (along with a revolving door of supporting characters), it has room to amp up the ridiculousness.
