Party Down: Season 1 (2009)

Critic Consensus: Before shows about struggling actors were done to death, there was Party Down.

Tv Season Info

The first season of the comedy series "Party Down" introduces us to a catering company consisting mostly of struggling actors and other misfits. Each episode finds the motley crew working a different gig, and often ending up in embarrassing situations with the clientèle. The main character is Henry (Adam Scott) who became famous for a beer ad that kept him from getting further work as an actor. He and his co-workers – which include the young comic Casey (Lizzy Caplan), wannabe superstar Kyle (Ryan Hansen), and the judgmental aspiring writer Roman (Martin Starr) --wrestle with their own problems, and often butt heads with their domineering, blowhard boss Ron (Ken Marino).

Party Down's appeal lies in its acute understanding of actors as insecure extroverts, writers as bashful narcissists, and unfulfilled artists of all types as quick-draw cynics.
