This is excellent horror telefantasy. Check it out as soon as you can, and be aware that a second series is very much on the way.

The most frightening thing about Zachary Quinto's vampire is his gross fingernails, but the rest of the cast kept me watching week to week.

There are moments of striking imagery and immersive world-building... but the series' misaligned priorities rarely give you time to soak in the horror before dropping you back into drab dramatics about campus visits and mismanaged taxes.

Though the series feels like it's about to take off at any moment, it struggles to get into gear.

Toothless vampire drama does have lots of violence.

The premiere doesn't exactly inspire confidence at first glance, but it's possible this a show with promise buried down deep that will take a bit of time to get the ball rolling.

Quinto and Cummings put in two fine performances and the story has a prestige TV sheen that makes us want to see more.

It's refreshing in a TV landscape full of complicated antiheroes that the characters with the most interiority in NOS4A2 are the good guys.

NOS4A2 is right up my alley... The concept is fascinating, and Vic's powers are a rarity in horror TV.

A spooky and suspenseful drama... This reimagining of the vampire story isn't playing things for laughs.
June 3, 2019
NOS4A2 proves too slow and plodding to generate much in the way of tension or genuine scare with regard to its unsettling premise.

Cold opens don't get much more chilling than the first scene of AMC's new supernatural horror drama NOS4A2.

NOS4A2 was an opportunity for AMC, an assortment of promising literary kernels that could have really come to life in a different medium. Instead, it's a bridge to nowhere and the only not-so-magical escape is changing the channel.

[NOS4A2] does a fantastic job of bringing the spirit of [Joe] Hill's story into the series.

So, if you like your Zachary Quinto psychotic and evil - but also sort of nerdy and polite - you will be happy here, if such a word may be allowed.
May 31, 2019
Any flickering glimmer of quality gets smothered by a drab visual palette, sluggish plotting and a crushingly dour tone.
May 31, 2019
The weak writing wouldn't be such a problem if the show had an ounce of the visual flourish it so desperately needed to succeed.

May 31, 2019
Visually sumptuous and broodingly slow-moving, the series aims way higher than most supernatural-horror dramas.
May 30, 2019
All that effort does little to make "NOS4A2" compelling television. The stories are disconnected at the outset and Vic's home life is one-note rote.
May 27, 2019
The series visibly struggles to spin an enveloping atmosphere around its ideas.
