Tv Season Info

They're here---aliens, that is, surfacing in a Florida hurricane and assuming human form. But the ETs may have been there long before. That's the setup for this provocatively cryptic sci-fi mystery, which is eerily reminiscent of the classic `Invasion of the Body Snatchers' as well as 'The X-Files.' The drama was created by Shaun Cassidy (`American Gothic'), who describes the series as mixing `darkness and light. It's all about the balance.'

Rather than going over the top with creature-feature hysteria, it aims for more insidious, human-scale fright.

For a show that begins with a major hurricane, "Invasion" comes off as tremendously dull at times. But the eerie denouement, which hints at sinister events to come, could atone for that sin.

In Invasion, we see the aliens through the eyes of average folk trying to make sense of their disjointed lives. This gives the show a character-driven Lost sheen, but avoids being a copycat.

Younger fans will be able to relate to the idea of seeing dramatic changes in their world, filtered through the lens of their family.

The concept was as good as any...The sickly beings then possessed the bodies of the residents and wreaked havoc. As simple as it may sound here, Invasion was rather high-concept.

[The pilot] was kind of a snooze... By the finale, Cassidy was layering in political references, deepening his mythology, and portraying moments of absolute horror, but no one was watching.
