Home Before Dark feels like a Nickelodeon series with prestige drama aspirations. There are few pleasures to be found here for adults.

Home Before Dark doesn't seem to know who it's for: it's a little morose for kids and far too Disney Channel sweet for older teens and adults, and these two tones constantly bash against one another as the mystery unravels.

Home Before Dark really needed to make a better case for itself to stay outdoors.

What saves it from simple tedious schmaltz is Prince's performance. She is simply astonishing. You wouldn't believe her character in any other hands.

Rather than paying tribute to a real-life journalistic trailblazer, Home Before Dark plugs her into a generic prestige-TV mystery, with journalism as an afterthought.
March 31, 2020
Considering that Home Before Dark is, for the most part, terribly written on a scene-to-scene level, its central mystery does offer a compelling baseline for the season.

A satisfying mix of Harriet the Spy and Making a Murderer.

Like all the original productions of this streaming service, Home Before Dark is impeccable in the technical level -- the music and cinematography are also strong -- and the nods to Veronica Mars are welcome. [Full Review in Spanish]

The writing may be childish and some situations are far fetched, but there's something about Home Before Dark that just works. [Full review in Spanish].

The writing, performances, direction and music are top-notch.

It's possible that Hilde Lisko... might be just the kind of female journalist hero that we need right now.

Prince's performance is so convincing that after a while you actually start to forget that you are watching a little girl.

Hilde and the mystery of Richie Fife is, unsurprisingly, what keeps "Home Before Dark" such a compelling watch. Brooklyn Prince's passion for the role is evident, especially in the moments she has to stand up to the town sheriff.

At her best, Hilde embodies the wit, precociousness and probity of Lisa Simpson; at her worst, she resembles Claire Danes's exhaustingly intractable and petulant CIA agent Carrie Mathison in Homeland.

Home Before Dark has all the hallmarks of excellent family entertainment.
April 11, 2020
Home Before Dark pits its raison d'ętre against its own supporting cast and necessary subplots. For whatever reason, the two simply don't mix as well as they should.
April 6, 2020
Hilde is a force to be reckoned with. The fact that this force comes in the package of a nine-year-old girl makes Home Before Dark equal measures intriguing, empowering, and fun.

The contrast between this precious girl and the dark story she's reporting can at times feel out of whack... But as anyone knows if they experienced The Florida Project with Prince as their guide, she's a compulsively watchable actor.

Too dark to be a family show, even though it has a family at the core, "Home Before Dark" offers a dark mystery plot instead.
March 30, 2020
In Prince's tiny, extremely capable hands, Hilde is a hero worth rooting for, even when she feels more like a symbol of hashtag feminism than a person.
