Home Before Dark feels like a Nickelodeon series with prestige drama aspirations. There are few pleasures to be found here for adults.

Like all the original productions of this streaming service, Home Before Dark is impeccable in the technical level -- the music and cinematography are also strong -- and the nods to Veronica Mars are welcome. [Full Review in Spanish]

Home Before Dark weaves a spellbinding story that should appeal to tweens, teens and parents alike.

Prince's performance is so convincing that after a while you actually start to forget that you are watching a little girl.

The writing may be childish and some situations are far fetched, but there's something about Home Before Dark that just works. [Full review in Spanish].

At her best, Hilde embodies the wit, precociousness and probity of Lisa Simpson; at her worst, she resembles Claire Danes's exhaustingly intractable and petulant CIA agent Carrie Mathison in Homeland.

Home Before Dark pits its raison d'ętre against its own supporting cast and necessary subplots. For whatever reason, the two simply don't mix as well as they should.
April 11, 2020
While it's an undeniably good show, Home Before Dark has a problem shared by a lot of the Apple TV+ originals: There's not really anything about it that pops.
April 11, 2020
Home Before Dark doesn't seem to know who it's for: it's a little morose for kids and far too Disney Channel sweet for older teens and adults, and these two tones constantly bash against one another as the mystery unravels.

Not everything about this drama is as good as Prince.

The writing, performances, direction and music are top-notch.

Hilde is a force to be reckoned with. The fact that this force comes in the package of a nine-year-old girl makes Home Before Dark equal measures intriguing, empowering, and fun.

Thanks to the steady, solid work of nine-year-old star Brooklynn Prince, the 10-episode Home Before Dark has the ability to engage viewers of every age.
April 5, 2020
It's certainly a series worth starting if you want a not-too-convoluted murder mystery without supernatural elements, or you like your detectives sassy and precocious.

Home Before Dark is a solid show that features a character inspired by a real-life kid investigative reporter.

It is adorable and funny, and manages to wrap all of that around a dark mystery story. It shouldn't work, but it does, and by heavens, it's a welcome arrival.

It's possible that Hilde Lisko... might be just the kind of female journalist hero that we need right now.

What saves it from simple tedious schmaltz is Prince's performance. She is simply astonishing. You wouldn't believe her character in any other hands.

Prince is remarkable, and for every fleeting moment that you sense the "actor" in her coming to the surface, she follows it with a beat that's utterly spontaneous and affecting.

Hilde and the mystery of Richie Fife is, unsurprisingly, what keeps "Home Before Dark" such a compelling watch. Brooklyn Prince's passion for the role is evident, especially in the moments she has to stand up to the town sheriff.
