High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is as charming and endearingly tongue-in-cheek as that title would suggest. It mostly exists in that sweet spot between pure empty nostalgia and something completely new.

Hardly unbiased as a big fan of High School Musical, this will be my daughters' (and my) guilty pleasure. Bravo for a teen drama filled with humor, talent, original music, and diversity!

The Series will leave fans impressed with its authentic feel, comedy, and quality. It is a production which seeks to redefine one of Disney's biggest franchises, and so far, it seems the series' cast and crew are together doing it right.

It's a very meta, but mostly meh, homage set in the same Utah high school where the original movie was filmed and which seemingly has yet to get over the honor.

These moments, however, tend to highlight the fact that other aspects of the show remain frustratingly similar to the movie's overwhelmingly two-dimensional approach.
