News & Interviews for Gayme Show!: Season 1
It shouldn't work - so why does it? Casting. Crucially, the contestants, judges and hosts all come from the New York/L.A. comedy scenes - the chemistry is friendly and funny, and the tone is spot on.
What's left is a soft game show with no real rules, some humorous exchanges, and plenty of loud talkers who crave the camera's attention. The hosts do land some funny lines, though, making for some forgettable entertainment.
It's silly and digestible and ultimately disposable, and doesn't really require much deeper examination than that.
It's meant to "uplift and celebrate" the LGBTQ+ community and its allies - at least according to the ad copy. But it doesn't come across that way at all.
It's bitchy and hilarious and if it feels rushed, it's because it's six minutes long.
