In an incandescent performance, Michelle Williams captures Verdon's intuitive intelligence and irresistible exuberance... while Sam Rockwell depicts the workaholic essence of Fosse's weariness.

The show does a brilliant job of showing the changing dynamics between this married couple through some really tense scenes and dialogues, played masterfully by [Michelle] Williams and [Sam] Rockwell.

While the series has had its ups and downs, it's tried to present the story of two great auteurs in an artistic, unique way, rather than playing everything as a simple, linear biopic.

It is enormously disappointing when even an approximation of the spirit of Fosse and Verdon's work, as opposed to its replication, cannot be mustered, in favor of trashy prestige.

Despite stellar performances from its two lead actors, it never really breaks out of that established biopic framework enough to tell a fresh and compelling story.

Fosse/Verdon makes decent use of its period setting, but the desire to make the series feel as theatrical as a Fosse play leads to a mishmash in tone.

[Sam] Rockwell delivers a strong performance as Fosse but it's [Michelle] Williams' incredible work as the soft-spoken Verdon that truly brings this drama alive.

Sam Rockwell manages to bring to his character enough complexity so as to not portray him as the stereotypical genius and awful human being. [Full Review in Spanish]

Besides being a meaty drama about a lifelong love-hate affair between two people, Fosse/Verdon does a wonderful job of explaining the creative process in all its magic and mystery.

While you don't have to be a dance fan to enjoy it, it will certainly help - many of Fosse/Verdon's classic creations are thrillingly recreated. It's a finger-clicking treat, set to a backbeat of ego and devotion.

Because we don't see the evolution of their relationship, but only fragments of different stages of it, it is hard to see what kept drawing Verdon back to Fosse, or how much better their work was together than separately.

Fosse/Verdon's biggest flaw was perhaps that it plays everything a little safe. Fosse probably wouldn't have. It was careful, and clever, and revealing, but it should have been big and bold and sexy.
