Critic Consensus: Arrow ensemble player Katie Cassidy is given an emotional sendoff, although some viewers may feel deflated by how her slaying was telegraphed throughout the season.

Critic reviews for Eleven-Fifty-Nine
Arrow played in to every single TV trope when it comes to a game-changing character death... A show shouldn't have to rely on cliche tropes to pull off one of the biggest stories of the season, if not series.
That's right friends, one of the most well known heroes in the DC pantheon was killed off for some Game of Thrones style shock value, and the producers completely deny that the resulting relationships came from the show's loudest part of the fanbase.
If only Laurel and/or Black Canary had been given a viable story during Arrow Season 4 from which to launch this popping story.
This is not the end of Arrow. Not by a long-shot. This is the beginning of a new Arrow, one that might not look exactly like the one in the comics, but who still has a lot of people along for the ride.
"Eleven Fifty-Nine" was a fitting tribute to who Laurel had become, and a heartbreaking goodbye to someone who had finally come into her own.
