Critic reviews for Home Invasion
It's tough to turn a haunted house story into a serial, when the homeowners are so thin and sleep-inducing as characters that you're kind of hoping the house does them in.
There's a lot of style with AHS, both visually and aurally, and I think that they've been able to match the style with substance: great cast, great acting, interesting scripts, and a lot of potential down the road.
"Home Invasion" was such a pleasant, twisted surprise because it actually was able to blend together the past estate atrocities with a real-life traumatic incident.
This was a major improvement over the premiere. It was frightening, but also grounded.
"Home Invasion" continued American Horror Story's storytelling m.o. of building stories out of pieces and planks of other horror stories. The fusion can be very clever.
It's worth noting, in an episode that including an abortion, a graphic stabbing, an evil cupcake, and Jessica Lange seducing Vincent Gallo, that I felt most uncomfortable on behalf of the writers. Where can they possibly go from here?
