Wreck-it Ralph (2012)
That rare film where a clever idea actually pans out, resulting in an entertaining movie.

Love Me (2012)
Everyone here is so stereotypical that most viewers would be hard-pressed to remember a distinguish feature of any of the characters after viewing the film.
Posted Jan 27, 2013
Taken 2 (2012)
The kidnapping victims aren't the only ones who were taken.
Posted Jan 18, 2013
The Pact (2012)
If you appreciate a quiet, thoughtful horror movie, you'll discover a lot to like here.

Dark Shadows (2012)
While nothing succeeds like success, people should think twice before giving Burton and Depp $150 million to work on their pet project.

The Letter (2012)
Most audiences aren't going to find anything to like in The Letter.
Posted Sep 29, 2012
Don't let the awful title fool you, this is a movie which shows how ambiguous the word "family" can be and makes some nice statements about how heavily influenced children can be when they are in the center of a divorce.

The Dictator (2012)
Cohen is so busy going out of his way to be shocking and controversial that he completely forgets to be clever.
Posted Aug 19, 2012
If you were to read an outline of the movie which only focused on the plot elements, it probably wouldn't sound that bad. It's Kahn's approach to the material and the tone which ruins everything.

Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory (2011)
As the title implies, this was meant to be a stop-gap, showing a situation which was stuck between two worlds. However, the story has moved beyond that now and we want to know more.
Posted Aug 2, 2012
The film vacillates from being about teenage romance and then back to a "parents just don't understand" movie and it rarely gels.

Hit So Hard (2012)
I felt that the movie was a companion piece to a book which I didn't know that I was supposed to have read.
Posted Jun 6, 2012
Definitely shows that creativity and spirit can win out over seemingly dead ideas.
Posted May 22, 2012
Road Trip (2000)
Yes, the idea of sending a videotape through the mail seems prehistoric to us today, but it serves as a fine catalyst for a thin story which only lives to serve up one bizarre situation after another.
Posted May 14, 2012
Mother's Day (2012)
The pacing is slow and the dialogue is sometimes contrived and we feel as if the movie wants to do more than it actually is.
Posted Apr 27, 2012
The Fields (2011)
The key moments which are obviously meant to be jarring are either limp or non-sensical.
Posted Apr 10, 2012
The Ring (2002)
Not a total disaster, but not as good as the original.
Posted Mar 31, 2012
One of the better low-budget horror movies which I've seen lately, but I felt that something was missing.
Posted Mar 23, 2012
The Descendants (2011)
It's a moving drama which is complex and interesting, while never seeming pretentious.
Posted Mar 22, 2012
By attempting to add layers, the movie gets very muddled and the third act feels as if it can never decide which sub-plot is the most important.
Posted Mar 21, 2012
Camel Spiders (2011)
A movie set around this urban legend is actually a good idea, but the execution here is all wrong.
Posted Mar 19, 2012
It keeps the viewer at arm's length, seeming ambivalent about whether or not we truly care about what is going on.
Posted Mar 18, 2012
Happy Feet Two (2011)
It feels as if Miller & Co. came up with the central idea, and then added more stories to it in order for the film to be feature length.
Posted Mar 13, 2012
High Road (2012)
I felt that the actors were fumbling through the conversations desperately trying to say something funny.
Posted Mar 4, 2012
Snow White A Deadly Summer (2012)
This barely qualifies as a movie.
Posted Feb 29, 2012
Columbus Circle (2010)
It's got a good look, the story is fairly solid (despite some plotholes in the finale), and the actors are good, but it never pushes the envelope.
Posted Feb 28, 2012
Justice League: Doom (2012)
There are some flaws in the story and the ending is a bit convenient, but the plot twist and the drama make it worth checking out.
Posted Feb 27, 2012
It's undeniably fun and you will just eat up the monsters...or vice-versa.
Posted Feb 16, 2012
Godzilla (Gojira) (1954)
I feel certain that for the citizens of Japan at the time, Godzilla was cathartic, but also a reminder of what the power of the atom could do.
Posted Jan 22, 2012
The movie has an amateurish look and feel at times.
Posted Jan 19, 2012
It's not funny or scary, and only the most patient viewer won't throw something at the screen at the end.
Posted Jan 9, 2012
Kill Katie Malone (2010)
Once the movie gets going, there is some minor character development and everyone's motivations make sense, but the film is simply never engaging.
Posted Dec 16, 2011
Psychic Experiment (2010)
There is nothing appealing about the movie, save for the fact that it would make the perfect bad-movie party fodder.
Posted Dec 11, 2011
The horror comedy is one of the most difficult genres to pull off and Chillerama shows that good intentions and a love for the genre won't get you very far.
Posted Dec 6, 2011
It falls into the wishy-washy category of horror movies which aren't awful, but they're not very impressive either.
Posted Nov 17, 2011
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2011)
Horror fans who have grown tired of every road trip becoming a death-trap will find the movie appealing, but don't expect a new classic.
Posted Nov 16, 2011
The two hour running time is simply numbing and instead of wondering what crazy thing would happen next, I just wanted the movie to end.
Posted Nov 15, 2011
This movie walks right up to the envelope, but it never pushes it, and afterwards, I didn't crave any leftovers.
Posted Nov 11, 2011
The Caller (2011)
Would have been a welcome addition to The Twilight Zone, but as a 91-minute movie, the story runs out of gas and gives way to tedium.
Posted Oct 1, 2011
Conan O'Brien Can't Stop (2011)
It's a portrait of a man who loves to perform and thus, offers both insight and entertainment.
Posted Sep 13, 2011
The Beacon (2009)
A flawed movie, but it's a cut above the average direct-to-video horror movie
Posted Aug 31, 2011
A Horrible Way to Die (2011)
Ed Wood called and said, "At least my movies were in focus."
Posted Aug 30, 2011
Super Hybrid (2011)
The movie may be stupid, but it's effective.
Posted Aug 18, 2011
Evil Things (2009)
Just because a character decides to video everything that happens, doesn't mean that we want to see it.
Posted Aug 16, 2011
We get a lot of animated films these days, and in the end, Rio is decidedly mediocre.
Posted Aug 9, 2011
Better Off Dead (1985)
From the menacing paperboys to the animated hamburgers to the aardvark coats, this is a very strange and silly film, which is also very funny.
Posted Aug 8, 2011
The entire affair feels like a low-rent version of The Shining.
