Colangelo attempts to provide context to the ugly bureaucracy which compounded so many people's pain years after the fact, but its dullness and a lack of empathy in its main character means it does not leave a lasting impression.

I just don't think the script in Worth justifies a cinematic journey. The main thrust of the story is helping companies to not get sued and providing people money so they don't sue. It's not enough umph.

Unlike better real life procedurals like Spotlight or even last year's The Report, where each new development was the consequence of the one that came before, Worth feels very much like the tail is wagging the dog.

In Worth Colangelo and Borenstein are trying to cover too much repetitive ground.

I hope that some filmmaker takes this story, alters it slightly, and transforms it into something truly great, because Worth ain't it.

The stakes are too high, and too real, for a script structured like a comedy about an emergency bikini car wash to save the sorority house.
January 25, 2020
Made with the respect and reverence that its subject deserves, Worth nevertheless remains a bit too stolid and too on-the-nose.

Worth might examine how much a life is worth but at the end of the day, the film also shows how Kenneth Feinberg grew as a person.

Worth is a quite a cut above other true story dramas of its kind in the way it actively involves everyone watching it.

Watching Keaton and Tucci go at each other in a handful of scenes is worth the price of admission. Here are two of the best actors we have, doing subtle, solid work.

Strong performances from Michael Keaton and Stanley Tucci help ground a thoughtful procedural about the conflict between compassion and pragmatism.

Colangelo never veers into sentimentality even as she elicits heartbreaking moments from fabulous performers like Laura Benanti.
January 26, 2020
While Feinberg's story and the victims' individual tragedies are the movie's heart, in its bones Worth is a Spotlight-esque procedural.

Worth finds its ultimate value in accepting what the film, and we, cannot ever determine for certain.
January 25, 2020
While "Worth" is most literally concerned with a stupefying question - what is a life worth? - it's more precisely about the price of calculating such a wrenching ask.

It's all so human and messy and it's refreshing to see a director that doesn't shy away from such complexity with Colangelo crafting a film that's every bit as nuanced as the subject at hand.

Colangelo's direction here is nuanced and emotionally resonant, allowing her performers to move beyond the melodrama and into something that feels genuine.
January 30, 2020
In being so generous in how it portrays all involved, "Worth" pays off mightily.
January 27, 2020
Michael Keaton and Stanley Tucci are outstanding in this sensitively done 9/11 drama.

Worth really makes the case that every citizen is unique. Blanket regulations are unacceptable. We deserver nuance. The 9/11 Fund ultimately did right, thanks to people like Feinberg, Wolfe and Biros' tireless efforts.
