Movie Info

For sculptor Willard Wigan, there's a whole universe in the eye of a needle. Using tools hand-fashioned from crushed diamonds and human eyelashes, Willard has crafted some of the smallest artworks in history. But though Willard's art is tiny, the price tags are huge, and he has the whole world talking. This first-ever TV documentary concerning Willard tells the remarkable story of how a Wolverhampton school dropout became a world renowned maker of masterpieces that can only be seen through a microscope. The lid is finally lifted on a unique process, where Willard's painstaking efforts can literally vanish in a heartbeat, or be accidentally inhaled. The film follows Willard as he goes smaller than ever before, to attempt a new world record, as he aims to carve a carpet fibre into a sculpture to fit inside a human body cell.

Critic Reviews for World's Tiniest Masterpieces

Wigan works with everything from platinum to spider webs, using homemade tools to shape them, such as a chisel made from a shard of diamond wedged into a hypodermic needle, or an ex-girlfriend's eyelash used as a paintbrush.
