Midlife buddy comedy with drinking, language, and laughs.

A pleasant and perfectly watchable comedy that would have died on the vine in theaters, "Wine Country" is casual viewing done right.

A superficial Sideways cut with a better-behaved Bridesmaids is unambitious, but that's tempered by the true-life chemistry these comediennes share. Rachel Dratch and Paula Pell are the respective secret weapons that really make it go.

Amy Poehler proves herself a natural comedy filmmaker in this laid-back ensemble charmer; it's as comfortably familiar as a glass of chilled white on a hot summer's day.

...if you saw this group of friends in a restaurant or at a wine tasting or walking down the street, you'd either feel grateful you have a similar crew, or you'd sure as heck wish you did.

More amusing than uproarious, Wine Country's cast sells this slender movie...

Poehler has strong timing and a big goofball spirit, and she has the best friends for this type of sunbaked, day-drunk escapism.

But while this isn't the most original project that any of these women have ever done, it is as warm and comfortable as a cashmere blanket draped around one's shoulders by a considerate friend.

Unlike basically every other drunken comedy ever made, this one has experiences of womanhood baked into every layer.

The lineup of comedy talent in Wine Country is impeccable. You're gonna laugh.

Despite having only one character trait apiece, the cast each slip into their semi-fictionalised roles as comfortably as a trusty longline cardigan. If only there were a bit of edge on show.

Amy Poehler's surprisingly hilarious ensemble comedy Wine Country is a party flick for the firmly middle aged.

A funny, snarky, and thoroughly enjoyable cinematic trip worthy of a toast and an impromptu viewing party made from your own crew.

I like what I see from Poehler in her first outing as a feature director...It's certainly a solid outing even if it's not one of those films where it's a laugh a minute.

Wine Country is basically Poehler's version of Adam Sandler's Netflix-funded vacations, but with some introspect in place of Sandler's crass gags.

Star Amy Poehler's directing debut about six female friends on a weekend break in Napa trips up on its journey from silly to soul-searching. No matter. Poehler seems to think that the pleasure of their company is enough. She's right.

Amy Poehler's directorial debut never really leaves its Eileen Fisher-clad comfort zone, but it'll probably be a hit regardless with women of a certain age.

By slyly acknowledging the clichés of "this type of movie," it distances itself from them before diving in. More importantly, it clears space for its mega-talented performers to pour on the laughs.

It may proffer fart jokes and pratfalls, but it also has profound and insightful things to say about what it is that keeps old friends returning to each other, even after the inside jokes are exhausted-and the limits of those bonds.

Wine Country goes down like a decent pinot grigio -- something that might not be a medal winner, but which isn't half bad.
