The movie asks good questions but fails to answer them in an interesting way. What makes an ordinary person seek out superstardom and why is the public so obsessed with taking it away from them?

Vox Lux has too many ideas it's trying to grapple with that it ends up not having any ideas.

Brady Corbet's new film about the pitfalls of stardom is an interesting but flawed picture; one with worthwhile themes and terrific performances, but not with a great deal to say.

...ultimately Corbet's film fails to hit the high notes.

The entire film rests on Natalie Portman. There's no question about her commitment to this role, but we think that it's too over the top and becomes tedious, especially with it's abrupt end which left us in stunned silence.

[The second half] of the film is meandering and pointless, underlining previously nuanced themes ... without meaningful development nor surprises.

It's like watching someone solve a knock-off Rubik's cube by simply peeling off all the stickers.

Many of Corbet's ideas are half-baked--on the surface, Vox Lux is a mess of popstar clichés and when you dig deeper it's a convoluted jumble of opinions about the aging societal idol.

Ultimately, the indulgent "Vox Lux" comes across like a puzzling leaked demo that hasn't been finessed into a cohesive song.

Though Natalie Portman is captivating, Vox Lux bites off more topics than it can chew in attempting to dissect modern obsession with celebrity -- and violence

Even the most inane, saccharine pop song has more to say than Vox Lux.

Portman gives her all, but it's in service of a film trying to say too much, and in turn, saying almost nothing. Corbet just isn't able to make his thesis a compelling one.

Natalie Portman and Jude Law anchor the sails of "Vox Lox's" crazy madness, but they can't stop director Brady Colbert from tethering too far into the abyss.

Even after a second viewing of Vox Lux I still feel something is missing for me.

An avalanche of unoriginal clichés that don't say anything original about either the terrorism of rampaging killers or the corrosive effect of celebrity.

Raffey Cassidy is the best part of the movie, but when the film deviates its focus over to Portman (and I can't believe I'm saying this) it takes a major shift for the worse.

Vox Lux is a film without the hooks to deliver its meaning.

The last 12 or so minutes of Vox Lux undermine what preceded it like a cruel punchline.

Vox Lox is as much of an assault as it is a ghost, lingering close to making an impact on us but never really landing.

A film that starts with a bang and ends in a fizzle, Vox Lux impresses before it disappoints.
