Critic Consensus: Like the best horror/comedies, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil mines its central crazy joke for some incredible scares, laughs, and -- believe it or not -- heart.

Critic Reviews for Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Here's something you don't see every day: a genial, politically correct splatter comedy.
Students of the Little Movie Glossary may find it funny how carefully "Tucker and Dale" works its way through upended cliches.
At its heart, it's really just a one-idea premise stretched out to feature length, but the lovable duo of Tudyk and Labine and an endearing layer of sweetness under all the blood make it a fully enjoyable comedy of (t)errors.
It's time we all toss our nine bucks into the proverbial woodchipper (don't ask me what proverb) and spit out enough money to make Tucker & Dale and other truly deserving, truly funny indie flicks a blazing success.
There's even a message under all the body parts: People are individuals, not just easy regional stereotypes.
Audience Reviews for Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Loopy twist on the usual "inbred drooling rednecks in the woods" horror go-to wherein the horny college kids jump scare react to that expectation when in fact the absolute opposite is true. Kinda fun.
It is super nice to see how instead of being a one-joke movie stretched for two hours it manages to find new ways to surprise us and make fun of slashers clichés without seeming stupid or missing what makes it so funny - and it is very funny, with the bonus of also having a heart.
With originality to spare and two hillbillies that are actually likeable, the movie is enjoyable in theory but it's one joke plot gets old.
