Critic Reviews for True Fiction
With echoes of The Shining and Misery, Braden Croft has created an intriguing plot and atmospheric tale that Stephen King himself would be proud of.
Pitched somewhere between Peeping Tom (1960) and Misery (1990), True Fiction is a tense and twisty near two-hander that carefully negotiates the convoluted connections between authorship and imposture in any work of make-believe.
The tense interplay of writer and Muse offers constant reflexive commentary on the way in which horror is at its most effective when it gaslights, manipulates and misdirects before revealing its true face.
Uneven and messy, it asks for your hand before yanking you along its journey...it's an odd one, but interesting.
