The Vixen (1916)
Critic Consensus: No consensus yet.
Legendary silent-screen "vamp" Theda Bara played the title character in Fox's The Vixen. The story concerns two sisters, Elsie and Helen Drummond (Theda Bara and Mary Martin). Helen is sweetness-and-light personified, while predatory Elsie is her sister's polar opposite. When Helen falls in love with Martin Stevens (A.H. Van Buren), Elsie steals Stevens away without so much as working up a sweat. Eventually, Elsie runs through Stevens' fortune, at which point she unceremoniously dumps him. But when she woos and wins Helen's next boyfriend Harley Knoles (Herbert Heyes), it is Elsie who suffers -- and suffers -- and suffers.
