The Visit is a pleasant surprise.

November 10, 2015

It triumphantly reinvents the genre, in a way that allows Shyamalan to combine suspense with witty running commentary on the art of filmmaking itself.

For all its intelligence and craft, M. Night Shyamalan's foray into the genre of found-footage horror has the feeling of homework done well.

It is with some surprise-and perhaps even a hint of disappointment-that I must report that The Visit is merely mediocre and not the breathtaking calamity that we've come to anticipate from its author.

A disturbing and creepy premise. It'll keep you watching until the very end!

Extremely average. I was expecting better from this one. It's not bad or good. Just a standard horror with some mild scares and decent acting from the kids. The grandparents were a little hammy. There was some real missed opportunities in this one. The reveal in the end was creepy and I didn't guess it, but it could have been so much more than it was. I'm glad I didn't go and pay money at the cinema as I was considering. DVD at home was more than sufficient.

Like watching old people kiss this film works on the aesthetic that old people are intrinsically weird, that they make you uncomfortable. That premise gets old pretty fast.
