The Three Musketeers (2011)
Critic Consensus: It plays admirably fast and loose with Alexandre Dumas' classic tale, but in every other respect, The Three Musketeers offers nothing to recommend -- or to set it apart from the many other film adaptations.

Critic Reviews for The Three Musketeers
Even the most liberal viewer is likely to echo Milady's thoughts of D'Artagnan: "You are very amiable, no doubt, but you would be charming if you would only depart."
Call it the Robert Downey Jr. Meets Sherlock Holmes Effect. A classic popular adventure gets overblown, juiced-up, and generally CGI-ified.
This version of the Musketeers story can't decide if it wants to be an old-fashioned tale of swashbuckling adventure and palace intrigue or a cheeky, effects-heavy rethink of some iconic characters a la the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes.
In the worst possible case, this could go on and on, but please, let's hope it doesn't.
It's as though the screenplay was brainstormed by Alexandre Dumas and Jules Verne...pure multiplex mulch, as disposable as it is entertaining.
Audience Reviews for The Three Musketeers
Do they remake Dumas' tale every generation? There's probably a college course waiting to happen that examines Western civilization through the type of Musketeers' story it entertains, yes? This one ... well, the visuals are eyepopping, no doubt, the French court never looking as good. And CGI is used abundantly and at every opportunity (even when it's inopportune), but the characters are given the once over only once - and no more - so there's little to care about. Only Milla Jovovich escapes apathy.
A terrible excuse for a film. Jumped up on CGI and bad acting, I wonder how this movie ever got made.
Old tales updated, more times than not don't really work out well. "The Three Musketeers" is one of those movies. Weak acting, and a generic movie make this a bore, and a big mess. It's the old story of the muskateers and D'Aragnan(Logan Lerman) battling Richlieu(Christoph Waltz), Buckingham(Orlando Bloom), and Milady(Milla Jovovich). Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, this movie is all over the place with action, bad dialogue, and flying ships. I will say this movie has one big thing in it's favor, it is beautiful in high definition. If you can watch this on blu-ray or 3D, then you should watch it just to see all the colors pop. If you get a dvd, or if it's on cable, don't waste your time. There are so many better movies to watch, this is just a real waste.
