The Fight (2018)
Critic Reviews for The Fight
It was brave and smart of Hynes to leave her comfort zone. Her desperately angry characters linger on, just as they should.
Hynes, as ever, oozes resilience and honesty. As well as showing off a mean right hook, she has crafted a moving tribute to shattered middle age.
It feels like a very personal film, well acted by the A-list cast that Hynes has assembled: a cathartic meditation on the need to heal, the need to confront those who do wrong and to confront yourself when you've done wrong.
Along the way her family experience small victories which adds to the feeling that no one is alone, they are a family, they don't give up on each other.
The Fight is a worthy directorial debut that, much like the seaside town it represents, shows artistic promise.
