Critic Reviews for The Command (Kursk)
[T]his is a punchy and poignant piece of film-making from Vinterberg.
As a film, Kursk could have wound up much worse, though it has uneven visual effects and goes in for some frankly puzzling decisions, such as a bizarre switch-up in aspect ratios when the sub gets underway.
Thomas Vinterberg reconstructs the K-141 Kursk submarine disaster but throws in a few too many gimmicks.
Thomas Vinterberg, usually so good at stripping his characters down to their barest states, doesn't feel like a good fit for the material.
Audience Reviews for The Command (Kursk)
The film does a fine job in developing its characters (and the relationship between them) and creating a strong feel of claustrophobia (especially with a tense long take that makes us hold our breath), but it also loses focus in its second half with unnecessary melodrama and not a real payoff.
