Sulphur & White (2020)
Critic Reviews for Sulphur & White
Movies have explored the long-term impact of abuse before... Yet none of these was hobbled by a central character who was, essentially, an unsympathetic arsehole.
An important story but doesn't leave a lasting impression.
While not a barrel of laughs, Susie Farrell's sensitive screenplay has much to say about trauma, masculinity and the power of love.
Julian Jarrold's movie is well meant and well acted - with Mark Stanley as Tait, Emily Beecham as his wife, Vanessa, and Dougray Scott and Anna Friel as his parents - but there's not a great deal to be learnt from its broad-strokes account.
