Sliding Doors (1998)
Critic Consensus: Despite the gimmicky feel of the split narratives, the movie is watch-able due to the winning performances by the cast.

Critic Reviews for Sliding Doors
It's not so much the tale itself as the slippery interplay between characters that makes Sliding Doors enjoyable.
Ultimately, Sliding Doors becomes a victim of its own cleverness, shutting down all that early promise.
Paltrow is delightful as the trendy Londoner running parallel lives and has a disturbingly accurate English accent.
Once the movie throws in a jolting, late-in- the-game plot twist that could have been borrowed from City of Angels, it never regains its balance.
Give the movie credit for being a different sort of romantic comedy, but still one has to regret the failure of imagination.
Audience Reviews for Sliding Doors
John Hannah is whimsical and perfect, and the character of Helen is ballsy and relatable; however, Gwyneth's faux British accent is a bit grating on the nerves. Very sweet and affecting Butterfly Effect parallel universes with subtle overlaps and similarities in each. Much like "(500) Days of Summer," which got the jump on my "Annie Hall"-esque anti-romance play in 2008, Super Reviewer and writing partner Jim Hunter, and I are co-writing a play about small events changing lives SANS the element of destiny. The two universes won't end in the same pre-packaged Hollywood happy ending.
Gwyneth is absolutely charming. She absolutely makes or breaks this film. Without her, or with any other actress in her place, it would have faltered. The premise is kind of sophomoric but boy does Gwynie act her brains out.
A cute little movie. I was interested to see how Lynch was going to do this but he did an excellent job. Thank God he made her 'look' totally different otherwise it would have been hard to follow. Cunning how he killed off the Helen we wanted to survive but then pulled it round at the end to have a happy ending where we presume she will still fall in love with James. Great performances.
