Dwayne Johnson is the rock of this shabby structure. He shoulders the responsibility of holding the screen on his own, but there is only so much you can do when situations are played on the loop.

A '90's throwback goodiebag

Dour, frustrating, and missing the magic that Johnson requires to shine.

John McClane called, he'd like his storyline back now.

An off-the-wall ridiculous and often boring violation of the laws of nature and common sense.

Overall, the film is a mix of Towering Inferno and Die-Hard-just not as good as either of those flicks. I didn't expect a cinematic masterpiece, but unfortunately, this popcorn flick was a little too weighed down by its own ambition.

Big, dumb, get-the-job-done fun, Skyscraper is both a testament to The Rock's nigh-bottomless watchability and a litmus test for the depths of storytelling bankruptcy he's willing to participate in.

Skyscraper lacks basic logic in almost every way, and it relies on the height of the tower to provide suspense far too often.

Like a lot of Johnson's second-tier vehicles, it feels a little bit like something that's supposed to look like a "grown-up" movie, but the target audience is really closer to 8 year-olds.

Finally there's an action blockbuster that extols the greatness of duct tape and the immense power of turning off a device and turning it back on.

It's mindless action that barely makes any sense, but you get what you paid for.

Even Dwayne Johnson and Neve Campbell cannot elevate Skyscraper above an average thrill ride.

This is a movie which prays the amount of twisted, flaming metal will cover the fact that none of the proceedings make even a lick of sense.

It's Die Hard but stupider.

The arguable universality of Johnson's appeal doesn't make up for the Thurber's formidably dumb script, calibrating every single scrap of dialogue or superficial character tic as a predictable springboard for the unfolding narrative.

Skyscraper is so preposterous it avoids becoming boring, for the wrong reasons of course. It scales the great heights of goofiness.

You better suspend your disbelief or the movie will forcibly suspend it for you.

Mind you, Rampage is substantially worse than this.
