Critic Reviews for Sex and Breakfast
The four restless young bedfellows talk lots and communicate little in trite and stagy digressions; even when they strip off their shirts, they're still emotionally clothed.
Despite an attractive cast and a few nice moments, Sex and Breakfast is just not that exciting.
A tortured talkfest with a premise far less ripe than its title.
Not sure if they were going for something edgy and deep here, but it falls short.
Audience Reviews for Sex and Breakfast
For a low budget film, this was really good.I didn't expect to like it half as much as I did and I certainly didn't expect to feel moved by it. This is about two couples who are both having issues in their relationships and decide to try partner swapping to help things along. Obviously it doesn't go as smoothly as planned. It was a little confronting to see Macaulay Culkin in such an adult role, but he is a good actor and he plays vulnerable well. Still looks young as hell, but I guess he can't help that. LOL. Eliza Dushku is also very good.
Interesting concept, but the story seemed to be lacking.
This is the first thing I've seen Eliza in since The Last Supper, in which she made a brief appearance, and while Sex & Breakfast wasn't exactly worth the wait, it's good to see her back on screen. Basically, the film centres on two couples who decide to experiment with group sex in order to revitalise their relationships. The Culkin-Dziena couple were terrible (both gave hideous performances), and Dushku's significant other, Kuno Becker, was annoying as hell. While I'm trying not to let my adoration of her cloud my judgement, Eliza was undoubtably the most interesting and likeable of the four. In the end, there was more breakfast than sex - I wasn't able to predict how the film would end, but I was disappointed that so much time was dedicated to the anticipation of the group sex event, and that hardly any was given to the aftermath.
