Critic Reviews for Rafiki
I really like this film and I think [director] Wanuri Kahiu is definitely someone to watch.
But to merely describe what happens in "Rafiki" would be to overlook its transporting sense of place, its striking visual pleasures and its credible and moving performances.
For its formal simplicity and directness, "Rafiki" is a small revelation, not least because it marks the breakthrough of a filmmaker of such exhilarating, cheerfully courageous vision.
A lyrical ode to finding a kindred spirit amidst an uncaring majority.
Audience Reviews for Rafiki
The intentions are definitely noble, especially considering that the film was made in a country where homosexuality means a death sentence, but unfortunately the love story is developed in an extremely corny way and the ending is a dishonest cop-out that frustrates for its naiveté.
