It lacks a big movie star and bigger laughs, and the script does not have the depth needed to pull off this film. There's one thing for certain. You'll stay in your seat, but you won't be happy with the time you've spent in the theater.

Will kids care about this man's career or that he is bad at dating? Nobody will.

Overall, Playing with Fire is unnecessary family entertainment, which is sure to suffer during the festive season.

It's harmless family entertainment, but there's not a single joke or plot point in the entire film you won't see coming. There's also a surprisingly small amount of firefighting given the premise.

Hildebrand is great and Convery and Slater are adorable in this film.

There's no wit about it and it taps nearly every single melodramatic trope you'd expect along the way to the point your eyes may be hurting from rolling so much.

John Cena has the charm, but the movie belongs on a streaming service.

One of the most uncreative films, relying on the most obvious jokes that are repeatedly used in a mostly single location.

It's one of those films that think being made for kids is synonymous with making it stupid. Of course, the truth is the reverse

[Playing with Fire] isn't going to win any awards and you'll likely more or less forget about it by the time you get home, but for a piece of family-friendly entertainment, you could do a lot worse.

Beneath the overacting, over-the-top antics, & non-original story, you would think this movie is all smoke & mirrors. But when you add up Cena's seriousness, Key's physical comedy, & Leguizamo's high strung energy, it's almost enjoyable to watch.

'Playing With Fire' is crafted exclusively for kids, but is it asking too much to serve them something that respects their intelligence a little more?

Key adds as many laughs as he can ... but you can only do so much with a film that wraps a major set piece around a baby pooping in a gas mask.

This feels like a throwback, but not in a good way.

I keep looking at the names in this cast and being astonished that such a talented collection of individuals could have produced such tragically unfunny work.

The film is bland and predictable, underestimates kids' abilities to understand story and humor, and relies way too much on sight gags that are clichéd and overdone.

Truth be told, my kid dragged me to see Playing With Fire, and one of us clearly had a better time than the other.

While it's a premise with decidedly limited potential, it could have been something watchable, but terrible writing, utterly bizarre pacing, and thoughtless, rote execution doom it to a far more dismal fate.

Devoid of humour, feeling or effort
