Pitch Perfect (2012)
Critic Consensus: Pitch Perfect's plot is formulaic, but the performances are excellent and the musical numbers are toe-tapping as well.

Critic Reviews for Pitch Perfect
The sung numbers are pretty dreadful but you can't have everything.
The song's the same, but Pitch Perfect is a great cover version.
Amusing though the movie can be, there's something missing in the warmth department. Like songs without accompaniment, its jokes lack any charm or liking for the characters.
Audience Reviews for Pitch Perfect
It may be conventional and formulaic with nearly all film clichés that Kendrick's character disdains so much (and not with the originality of the likes of The Breakfast Club), but maybe that is the point after all: to work as a solid predictable comedy. And it does so well.
Bitchtastic. "I can see your toner [ladywood for a member of the nemesis male a capella group]!" "That's my dick." The rising action is a bit slow and repetitive with Aubrey mindlessly sticking to her traditional setlist, but the song and dance numbers at the end really pump up the jam. I used to not care for Anna Kendrick's face or acting - attributing her badass demeanor to mostly costume and make-up - but her pixie-sized sex appeal is just winning as heck. Rebel Wilson is hilariously "a ca-awkward," as are the ragtag team of supporting characters, namely the quiet Asian and her sociopathic murmurings, "I ate my twin in the womb."
Although not as clever, talented or messaged as television's venerable Glee, Pitch Perfect is a pleasant diversion with fine singing and funny, snarky quips. It would have been better if the characters and situations were developed more. Only half of the potentially interesting characters were exhibited enough to generate real interest. I feel as though a lot of the films' potential was squandered. Still, it's solidly fun and entertaining -- just not as much as it could have been.
