Open Range (2003)
Critic Consensus: Greatly benefiting from the tremendous chemistry between Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall, Open Range is a sturdy modern Western with classic roots.

Critic Reviews for Open Range
Here is Costner, calm and careful, his skin these days only a little older with its new indentations and fine markings. And when he is like this on screen, he is perfect.
Handsomely mounted, as you would expect, Open Range has a good deal to commend it.
Just about everything in this movie has its antecedent: a little bit of Shane here, a chunk of High Noon there, and so on. And yet it's all rather pleasing, in a regressive sort of way.
This is a truly outstanding film, with great performances, particularly from Duvall.
A flawed but highly entertaining B Western blown up to John Ford scale.
Audience Reviews for Open Range
Recent quality western that many may have missed. Check it out!
Overlong but with a nice sweep, excellent music choices and good performances.
As a Western character study you couldn't do much better, the give and take between Duvall and Costner, the old man and the kid (10 years on), the glue holding the piece, with Bening doing very well as a strong frontier woman. And Gambon is a surprise as the ruthless cattle baron. Well worth your time.
