Letters to Juliet (2010)

Critic Consensus: Letters to Juliet has a refreshingly earnest romantic charm, but it suffers from limp dialogue and an utter lack of surprises.

A gloriously tacky Italian romance.

Both exasperatingly vapid and easy to sit through.

As an antidote to the sugar, what we need now is a grumpy film called Letters to Lady Macbeth, in which malcontents leave rage-filled missives in the battlements of Glamis Castle.

Seyfried acts like she's spaced out on limoncello in a role even Kate Hudson would have turned down.

The script, sighing, twittering and doing D.H. Lawrence lite, would be rejected as too whimsical by Mills and Boon.

Not to be a cynic or anything, but maybe a fictional 13-year-old isn't the best source of advice for the lovelorn.

Audience Reviews for Letters to Juliet

For a cynic it'd be easy to cut through this film's premise and plot. But you know what? It's wonderful. It's gorgeous to look at and makes you want to book your next trip to Italy right away. The actors are lovable and Seyfried has more charm and charisma in each eyebrow than most of her peers combined. There is romance, humor, even a surprise or two in an admittedly predictable story. But man, Italy. So beautiful. Makes you happy.

A very cute romantic movie, good for date night. Not a lot of substance, however. Amanda Seyfried had the sad misfortune of having been immortalized in celluloid before she learned how to act. I guess that kind of makes this film a tragedy?

This is a very predictable movie. Sophie answer a 50-year-old 'Letter to Juliet'. Claire - who is now a grandmother and her cute lawyer-grandson goes looking through the Italian countryside for Claire's long-lost love. If this were a predicable movie, Claire, the Italian oldtimer, Sophie and the lawyer-grandson would all live happily ever-after, right?
