Who expected a horror movie about a red murder dress to be riotously funny and a screed about the dehumanization of the working class, fabrication of desire, the hollow pursuit of meaning through consumption, and capitalism smothering the proletariat?

It's as though the last 50 years never happened and Rome's Cinecittà Studios are still turning out the films that defied and then defined the psychological horror genre.

What happens... reveals to us the most playful and complex-free face of a constantly evolving filmmaker. [Full review in Spanish]

Strickland's cinema is just not for me. I find no connection between his wonderful style and stories. But I know there's something there I will discover soon. [Full review in Spanish].

This is not the film to see if you're after a sleazy good time. It's more like a game of hunt the symbol, with possible interpretations scattered so thickly it is hard to pick just one.

It's not the funniest comedy nor the scariest horror film, but is absolutely the most committed haunted-dress movie of the year. It's Peter Strickland, it's full of artistic integrity, and it's fabulous.

Unconventional in nearly every way in its voyeuristic fantasies of high fashion and sexual fetishes, original arthouse horror done right.

Simply put, IN FABRIC is one of the best horror films of the year because of its vision, its absurdity, and because it taps into a realm that few films get right.

With such a promising premise that could have been strange but alluring, you're left with a confused and irritating feeling that nothing really made sense.

A deliciously Modern Gothic mix of Marx and Freud. Riffs on commerce and consumerism via comedic and horrific uncanny imagery.

[Strickland has] crafted a devilish comedy here, what with his attention to dialogue that can bang the doldrums or rasp the mind as it so pleases.

If you're a devotee of cinema of the weird like me and dig the outré stylings of Mandy and The Lighthouse, In Fabric is a good bet for you.

It feels so tantalizingly close to a perfect, atmospheric film...Still, fans of Strickland's work will continue to find a lot to love here.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but Peter Strickland's hallucinatory horror-comedy looks and sounds like no other genre film in recent memory.
