At best, you'll find this to be a corny comedy-drama that you wish you'd never seen. The acting isn't terrible, but not even that can save this from being uninspired.

It's strange that two such individually loveable actors can so comprehensively fail to gel.

It is bringing nothing fresh - just hollow echoes of Richard Curtis, but sorely lacking any of his willingness to occasionally bite through the schmaltz with some nice, savage British humour.

But Hopkins... is not prepared to stray too far from the path he has set, with the result that we end up in a wholly predictable, perfectly pleasant, crashingly bland place.

Hampstead offers nothing new in its tired-out genre, serving up uninspired writing and bland direction against a British backdrop.

After so many predictable segues, tiresome quips and familiar narrative beats, the film's cumulative effect devolves from tolerable to grating.

Diane Keaton and Brendan Gleeson are two good reasons to see this sweet, pleasant romantic comedy - even if they've been short-changed with pretty ordinary material to work with.

This is the movie equivalent of an airline's easy-listening music channel. You might never feel the need to plug into it, but it's good to know that it's there.

Hampstead could, should, have been a sweet romcom for the hip-replacement generation. Alas, the romance is unconvincing and on the whole the comedy has all the bright effervescence of pond water.

Pensioners may be able to get cheap daytime tickets but they don't deserve cut price drama.

Just look at that lovely still of [Keaton and Gleeson] sitting idyllically on Hampstead Heath. Now wave it in front of your eyes for an hour or two. That experience will be richer than anything in Joel Hopkins's underpowered screen filler.

Diane Keaton and Brendan Gleeson aren't an obvious match; despite their combined lovability, this slender romcom doesn't prove otherwise.

We're just supposed to accept that Diane Keaton - Diane Keaton! - would happily settle for a man she literally finds in a bush.

As a feel-good romantic fantasy, this grey-powered version of Notting Hill just passes muster. But it's a far cry from the filmmakers' best work.

Watching it is akin to witnessing Maggie Smith's The Van slowly rear-end Richard Curtis's Notting Hill: a cringing slow-mo car crash best viewed between your hands.

Keaton plays Keaton and Gleeson plays Gleeson. That should almost be enough to carry the film. But it isn't...

Much as we love romantic comedies about older-age couples, this over-formulated dollop of treacle makes you pine for the hijinx of It's Complicated.

Nice, but not all that necessary.

Flavorless stuff, forgettable as soon as it ends.

100 minutes of flimsy whimsy, calling on Keaton ... to dispense her clucking, ditsy bewilderment, school of Annie Hall, while Gleeson does bluff and crotchety charm, school of Brendan Gleeson.
