Movie Info

A young woman looks for the true meaning of love and learns the truth of the old saw, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone," in this fourth installment in Eric Rohmer's Comedies and Proverbs series. The story opens with the proverb, "He who has two women loses his soul. He who has two houses loses his mind," and centers on Louise (Pascale Ogier) and her live-in lover, Remi (Tchéky Karyo), a Paris architect and noted tennis player. Their relationship hits an important juncture when Remi decides he wants to get married, while Louise wants to continue living the life of a party girl. Eventually, Louise decides to escape her lover's oppression and become intimate with loneliness, so she moves to Paris where she makes complex plans to have her cake and eat it too. Unfortunately, things don't go exactly as planned as she finds herself the object of an amiable writer's affections. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Critic Reviews for Les Nuits de la pleine lune (Full Moon in Paris)

All Critics (14) | Top Critics (4)

With a graceful round of self-deceptions and mistaken identities, exquisite rationalizations and fortuitous accidents, Rohmer pierces the glossy veneer of the social scene and the dignified realm of art to reveal the sexual fury that they embody.

January 9, 2017 | Full Review…

It's as elegant and incisive a comedy of manners as ever from Rohmer.

January 26, 2006 | Full Review…

Full Moon in Paris ranks with the very best of Rohmer. Enlightened self-deception is the system in this tiny universe, and it's invigoratingly comic to behold.

August 30, 2004 | Rating: 5/5

Full Moon in Paris, the fourth in the series, is bleaker than any of its predecessors.

January 1, 2000 | Full Review…

This is the most ironic and, in many ways, judgmental of [Eric] ohmer's films.

October 6, 2016 | Full Review…

Moon is arguably one of the easiest Rohmer films for viewers to identify with. Let's be honest, just about everyone has been in an unequal relationship.
