Edge of Darkness (2010)

Critic Consensus: For better and for worse, Edge of Darkness offers vintage Mel Gibson, working within the familiar framework of a bloody revenge thriller.

Movie Info

Casino Royale's Martin Campbell returns to familiar territory with this adaptation of his own 1985 BBC miniseries -- a mystery starring Mel Gibson as a detective looking into his political-activist daughter's death and uncovering layers of governmental conspiracies in the process. William Monahan (The Departed) provides the screenplay for the GK Films production, co-starring Ray Winstone and Danny Huston. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

The acting, with the exception of Bojana Novakovic, adds nothing to the trite plot.

Gibson, of course, snaps and snarls and blows out some brains with a joylessness that is thoroughly enjoyable. It's like he never left.

Though Ray Winstone does his best to elevate this story, in the end Edge of Darkness is a fairly basic Mel beats up the bad guys flick

It's a Mel Gibson film. You take him as he comes, which is usually at full pelt.

Scriptwriters William Monahan and Andrew Bovell have sadly sacrificed some of the original's cultural specificity and its slow-burn quality.

This paranoid corporate political thriller is almost certain to disappoint anyone hoping for a repeat of the brooding suspense of the original.

Audience Reviews for Edge of Darkness

I've seen this film before, when it was titled something else just as unmemorable. Gibson played the same character in that movie too. Why waste the time on this one?

Mel Gibson's return as angry dad avenging his daughter's death works for the longest time, also thanks to a really interesting minor character. The bursts of violence are really sudden and gut wrenching, only Gibson's humorous face sometimes doesn't seem to fit in. While the solution still works, the epilogue is somewhat silly. Still, over decent enough revenge thriller.

Decent enough thriller, is a remake from what I understand, so would genuinely like to see the original.
