Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Reviews
The human characters were unengaging and the apes were one dimensional. Terrible movie.
Writing: A; Acting: A; Directing: A; Visuals: A; Editing: A-; Fun factor: Good
Weaknesses: Gary Oldman (Dreyfus) felt super underutilized. He´┐ 1/2(TM)s a great actor who could´┐ 1/2(TM)ve been a strong addition to this franchise. Especially when we got shots of the character´┐ 1/2(TM)s kids being gone. But he doesn´┐ 1/2(TM)t really do anything. Kirk Acevedo (Carver) was also way too generic. He played the typical jerk who ruins everything by being a dick and it never clicked. It felt like he was trying too hard.
Overall: An improvement on the first film. They take what made that work and expand on it, while giving us a lot of suspense, plot twists, and emotions.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is an exception in modern-day Hollywood. The movie manages to exceed and expand upon the previous movie and makes the world feel a whole lot more realistic. It takes ideas about leadership. fathership and much more and brings it into this crazy world where Apes mostly run the place. It somehow manages to be realistic despite everything happening. The characters are fleshed out and have clear and understandable motivations. The visual effects are outstanding and are used as a tool to tell a story instead of a story being created surrounding the visual effects. The acting, namely Andy Serkis is great. It isn't just some person acting out dialogue that is being changed in the recording booth, it is really Andy Serkis conveying emotions and talking to other actors, it is amazing. War for the Planet of the Apes is a movie I'm looking forward to.
