Constantine deserves a cult following and should be remembered for all the things it did right instead of its perceived wrongs.

Constantine works by using Hellblazer as a jumping-off point...it creates a moody piece of modern, metaphysical noir.

It's Keanu's offbeat humor and subtle sensitivity that prevent John Constantine from becoming an angsty, chain-smoking, grimly macho cliché.

John Wick: Book of Revelation as Constantine dispatches demons amid dark rainy streets, visiting Papa Midnite's neutral bar where no business can be conducted between angels and demons. Reeves is brilliantly weary; Swinton's Gabriel briskly unsympathetic.

The complicated narrative and countless supporting characters from the comic are boiled down into the key elements that make CONSTANTINE an excellent standalone story and a perfect introduction to what should have been a long-running series.

An enjoyable revelation.

A very satisfying film.

Halfway through Constantine, a fully clad Keanu Reeves steps into a shallow pail of water, sits on a chair next to it and holds a cat in his lap.

This film combines elements of comic book fantasy with horror to create an enjoyable brew - sort of a film noir version of The Exorcist, crossbred with the stylization of The Matrix.

While decidedly no one's idea of the John Constantine of the comics (who was originally modelled on Sting), Reeves acquits himself well enough.

Reeves, meanwhile, has confidently entered his self-parodic period.

While lacking the richness of its source material, it remains an enjoyable, immoral and sometimes beautifully Gothic tale.

I went into this Constantine expecting the worst and came out wanting more

Constantine does generate some mid-level amusement and F/X interest in the epic battle it's based on, but has very little to show for it once the final credits role.

By every standard of good filmmaking, Constantine is a mess. Yet I did not find it one of those so-bad-it's-good affairs. I honestly enjoyed it.
