Confronting Holocaust Denial with David Baddiel (2020)
Critic Reviews for Confronting Holocaust Denial with David Baddiel
It says everything about this thorough and fascinating documentary that the most chilling and dangerous interviewee wasn't even a Holocaust denier.
Best of all was the moment when, just after Mulqueen had directly accused Jews of holding sacrifices of Christian babies Baddiel turned straight to the camera, Fleabag-style, and said: "I think it's time for a song."
It is to Baddiel's great credit that he remained calm throughout, disarming the denier, who believes Jews have tricked the world for profit, with the weapons of sarcasm and humour.
Baddiel travels to Lithuania, where Nazi collaboration among so-called "national heroes" is still widely obfuscated. He's more concerned to understand than to condemn - even here, where denial rates remain sky-high despite laws against it.
His (David Baddiel) fascinating tour exploring the phenomenon of those who deny the Holocaust ever happened. It was unabashedly and appealingly personal.
