Chicken Run (2000)

Critic Consensus: Chicken Run has all the charm of Nick Park's Wallace & Gromit, and something for everybody. The voice acting is fabulous, the slapstick is brilliant, and the action sequences are spectacular.

Its plump chickens maintain that strange, haptic quality that makes you yearn to reach out and squeeze them.

Even without Wallace and Gromit, most of the trademark joys are here: the compound of squashy creatures and heavy machinery, the wide, open-ended rictus of a toothy smile, and the great Parkian gulp.

It coaxes you to laugh and cry, flatters your intelligence, and practically guarantees a cheap night out: at dinner afterward, no one's going to be ordering anything but salad.

Audience Reviews for Chicken Run

Take "The Great Escape" and switch the story to a English barnyard, where a covey of fowl have had it with intolerable conditions and want out. Doesn't seem like much but the beautifully succinct animation (which can convey just about any emotion Aardmann so chooses), a warmly told tale, and a cast of diverse characters to root for and you are drawn into this surprisingly charming experience. Well done stuff.
