Bad Science and stupid storyline are not hallmarks of a good movie. The technical details were written by a fourth grade science class. Read a book instead.

Passable made to TV movie aspires to tell a Michael Crichton type of story that educates and entertains the audience at the same time. The story is essentially in the classic disaster film mold (ALA "Earthquake" or "The Towering Inferno") featuring a varied cast of characters in various settings and roles in dealing with the titular category 6 storm. The main characters are energy grid executive Thomas Gibson and hungry young reporter Nancy "The Fact of Life" McKeon. There's also environmentalist congresswoman Dianne Wiest, national weather service head Brian Dennehy and then there's comic relief tornado chaser Randy Quaid. There really has never was been a great disaster film, but merely a number of entertaining ones. No one watches these movies for the characters or story. The only reason to really watch one is for the death and destruction and for a TV movie, this one does a decent enough of job, though it does get overly preachy in it's attempts at Michael Crichton-like educating, trying to cover everything from environmental abuses, global warming, nuclear energy, our aging power grid, hacking, sexism and corporate price rigging of energy prices to name a few. Stick with "Airport 77" (that's the one where they're on the bottom of the ocean, right?) or even "Hard Rain" (which actually told a crime story during a disaster instead of just focusing on the distruction) over this one. And one note to "Lost" fans. Oceanic Airlines makes an appearance in this film, though Oceanic has appeared in a number of films before "Lost" ever aired. It's a popular fake airline in movies because they can reuse footage. This film reused footage from "Executive Decision."

A CBS mini-series featuring Thomas Gibson (of Criminal Minds) and Nancy McKeon (Jo, my favorite of the Facts of Life girls). The premise is preposterous, however this disaster story is written well enough for you to care about the characters and almost feel the danger they are experiencing. Brian Dennehy is wonderful as the head of the Weather Service in Norman. Pretty darn good considering it was made for TV.

I was really surprised how good this movie was. Wasn't too happy that once the eye of the storm passed, then the way more severe weather that was to come after, never was shown. And im still wondering what happened to Tommy??

Good effects but for it's long length it should have a better story plot and some better acting to make the film not tire so quickly.

Nancy's great in this one and the effects are worth a look. Far superior to "The Day After", but doesn't quite live up to 2012.

Way better than I dared to hope!

The plot takes its time to brew; we get to know the characters and the situation, slowly, and by the time the real action begins, you're actually familiar enough with everyone to feel sorry for them.

The special effects were not the best. It's funny how bad they were at places, while sometimes they were actually quite good. That doesn't really matter in this movie, because it gets the message across beautifully and within reason.

This film is more than just what its covers shows; it's a story of survival, or political game and interesting stories that you might not think would be involved. People come together at the hardest of time, and when going gets tough... some of them get tougher. No super-heroics here, though.

Interesting movie that didn't feel too long and was never too boring to keep watching.

Imagine if we could fit 50,000 weather forecasts into one movie, and show them all explicity, and then derive cliched plot elements to surround these weather forecasts with. A horrible catastrophe, no? I present to you the sci-fi movie, cateogry six.
