Bodied is a blisteringly urgent and inescapably topical meditation on race, class and identity.

Bodied has a lot on its mind. So much that it doesn't always know how to balance it, but watching it try to is entertaining and eye-opening.

Bodied takes viewers on a kaleidoscopic tour of battle rap culture, dropping dope rhymes and ill punchlines all along the way.

Anyone who watched the final act of Eminem pseudo-biopic 8 Mile and wished it had been directed by Edgar Wright is about to find their new favorite film.

Even if you have absolutely no affinity for battle rap what-so-ever, Bodied deserves to be seen - an endlessly brave deep-dive into the power of language, delivered as a full-on execution of 2018 culture.

Bodied is a fearless firecracker of a film, dishing out a steady stream of laugh-out-loud sequences and "did they really just go there?" moments while challenging perceptions every step of the way.

Bodied is probably not for most audiences, but those who like their humor to be both crude and knowing will likely have as much fun watching it as I did.

The hyper-stylized world [Joseph] Kahn creates has an artistry that barrels its way into the social consciousness in a manner that few films would ever attempt.

It's shaggy, overlong, and sometimes tough to take, but ultimately if one can listen or read between the bars being spit, Bodied is smart and worthwhile viewing.

The insightful and immersive film manages to both salute the artistry of battle rappers and satirize the hypocritical culture that sustains their livelihood.
November 8, 2018
[It's] blatantly offensive-racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, ugly, repugnant, vulgar, etc., unapologetically so -- but takes full responsibility for everything that it is, everything that battle rap is, with the delicacy of a wet fart.

It's not entirely successful, especially in how unclear it is with what conversation it's trying to start, if any at all, but it is undeniably entertaining as all hell throughout.

While overly long, the strong performances and Kahn's stylish visuals make this satire not one to miss.

It's the PC culture takedown we need now ... more ... than ... ever.

Bodied is uneven, but it has the fire where it counts.
November 5, 2018
... hyper-straightforward in every aspect, resulting in a beat that is frenzied and heady and beastly and lucid. Sounds about right after you get bodied for real, no?

A film that feels as timely as it does timeless, both in regard to the jokes and its cultural critique of a culture.
November 4, 2018
The aggressive and uproarious film packs a wallop as the viewer is left incapacitated by the lyrical poetry in full flow. Khan's film is refreshing, fearless, and intensified.
