Holds up well even after multiple rewatches. Campy but engaging, and seldom forgets that serialized TV series are all about the characters. And what glorious characters we have here, James Colicos as an over the top baltar, managing to portray a true evil villain without getting campy. Dirk Bendict as the cigar chomping overconfident starbuck. Lorne Greene as the fatherly leader Adama. Charismatic patrick macnee as the mysterious count iblis. I could go on and on. The only downside is the heavy and obvious re-use of effects cuts.

Didn't like the cutesy robot dog until I reminded myself "star wars - r2d2 and c3po" so, ok.Witty dialogue, Cast includes Jane Seymour, Ray Milland, and the magnificent John Colicos.

It's not good, but not terrible.

Universal rejected Star Wars back in 1976, then they realized that they should't have rejected it, that's why they made this piece of s**t.

It took me a while to eventually getting around to watching this old series - after thoroughly enjoying the 2000's remake. After what appeared to be a shaky start, where despite following the footsteps of Star Wars the sfx was jarring by comparison, things picked up. Aided mostly by some of the neat similarities or contrasts to the remake (or should that be vice versa) and some solid action. The last episode however strayed too far into 60s Star Trek territory with lizard men and gawdy costuming. Keen to see whether the rest of the series packs any of the punch so well delivered in the remake.

This old show has more racial diversity than the newer show. Col Ty (the second in command) is played by a black actor. And there are a few aliens in here that I believe represent black trans-gender people.

Sure the acting can be hammy at times. The effects surprisingly hold up well.

What disappointed me about the new show was the last of Centurions, here they are all over the place and it's great. Also Baltar is killed. In this TV movie we see 2 alien races, where was that in the new show?

Check it out.

Isch!

Cult classic from early Sci-Fi TV

The pilot film to a great but short-lived tv series with survivors fleeing the Cylon tyranny on their quest of salvation to Earth. Ambitious project for tv with special effects that hold up well (aside from the daggit). Ultimately a victim of high production costs after only 24 episodes. Sued by 20th Century Fox for liberally stealing ideas from Star Wars.

Campy, but it has its charms, mainly the likable main characters and the entertaining designs of the aliens.

Star Wars was a hit and every Hollywood studio was looking to cash in.
Universal decided to invest in veteran television producer Glen A. Larson's Exodus in space. This is the shorter, tighter, more focused, plot driven 125 minute version of the 139 minute television pilot. Hideously expensive to produce, Universal, always a very practical studio, assembled the theatrical version ahead of the series debut and tested the waters in Canada, before releasing it worldwide. There is the germ of a great idea present in the film's beginning and a likeable cast with a easygoing chemistry do have charm. Shame about the chimp in a suit dog, sorry, daggit and the obvious reuse of effects shots. Signs of the terrible, heavy handed cutes and over reliance on spectacle over character development that would doom the series. Director Richard Colla has a strong eye, avoiding the pitfalls of television cinematography. He shoots wide and slowly reframes shots rather then the usual patchwork of close ups that make up televsion of this period. The lighting is suitably dark and moody, in keeping with the tone of the piece. While this film is not a patch on Ronald D. Moore and David Eick's 2003 treatment of the same material it is an entertaining ride, enlivened by Stu Philip's outstanding score. Hands down the production's highlight.

It might seem like Star Wars, though the genre has ventured so far, it's something entirely changing. Though it does have a pretty slow plot, tv-effects, and little excitement. The characters are decent, the costumes are great, but the film doesn't quite deliver as much as the franchise's legacy would have promised.

It's a mix between Star wars and Star Trek with a touch of Planet of the apes. Worth the watch for the 70's style.
