Lots Of Guns And Blazes Of Glory. Typical Texas Style Gun Totin' Action. Not Much Else. Just A Long Story Of Americans Doing What They Do Best.. Blowing The Ba-Jesus Out Of Things.

The only movie account of the Alamo that tells it like it was. Crockett is shown a s a flawed man and he does not go down fighting. The movie goes against all the mythic stereotypes of the majestic Anglo doing down fighting against the savage enemy representing despotism and non white races. It should be given cudos that it portrays the contribution of the Tejano Mexicans, particularly Juan Seguin. To most Texans that is just the name of a town and street signs. My Tejano neigbors did not know what Tejano meant nor that it described them. Nor did they know who Juan Seguin was or than he served in the Texas senate after independence. Texans cherish their myths, at leas since the 1901 when the Alamo was lifted to hallowed status from being the feed storage building of a grocery store. If you want to know how things went down at the Alamo, this is the best depiction. Drawing on the authenticated de la Pena diary written by a Mexican officer who was there. This is not Fess Parker's or John Wayne's David Crockett. He does not go down fighting as the myth would have you think. The movie takes you all the way from the Alamo to San Jacinto, so it does drag in between, but is worth a look.

This film is depressing. Taking something as iconic as the Alamo and turning it into this sloppy turd is unforgivable.

An average film with a few really memorable scenes. Thornton did a good job acting as David Crockett.

An intense war film with great characters!

found this to be an enjoyable film, but if you are looking for the Michael Bay type film then this isn't for you. I recommend this movie to anyone that likes historical pieces.

Aside from the embarrassingly clichÚd, dramatized execution of Davy Crockett - in which Crockett spouted the most ridiculously cheesy one-liners and Hollywood conveniently placed as the last death of the 189 fallen Texians - this whet my whistle for a movie with historical accuracy. I was impressed with the film's ability to convey the meaningfulness of the Battle of the Alamo, which only looks like a lost cause if uninformed about its context. Without this Alamo battle, Texas would be a part of Mexico, and without this Alamo film, its story still would not have been done justice.

A film that fails to keep your interest while surrounding characters whose names are difficult to remember throughout the muddled story.

Not sure I understand the negativity. Plays out like an epic Western and feels very authentic. Of course, this film is probably more enjoyable through the eyes of a history enthusiast (similar to Troy). Acting was great, not outstanding, but definitely great. Thornton portrayed Crockett well, and aside from Slingblade quite possibly one of his best roles. Certainly not a 29% type of movie; the talkiness and pacing may throw viewers off, but all in all its not all that detracting. Especially considering the climax as it is well shot and executed. One of the better pre-WWII films on American military history, if you ask me.

Meandering plotlines and a so so tone and take, make The Alamo not worth remembering, unlike the actual historic event.

Very sad yet inspirational take on the true story of the Alamo

A considerably underrated film. The Alamo is an epic story told outstandingly in this war drama. Hancock's vision came through in the intense battle sequences and the strong performances that gave it that credibility.

A fine film about a seminal event in American history, with a great cast and strong script, though it's best appreciated by history enthusiasts. Grade: A

The Alamo is a historical movie badly told, featuring lazy performances and an unappealing idea

I would encourage those interested in the Alamo to watch this movie. I felt that it captured the very real and gut wrenching apprehension one feels in the face of certain death. This film conveys the truth rather than the idealized fantasy portrayed in the john Wayne version. My favorite quote: If it was just plain ol' David Crockett from Tennessee I'd jump over this wall and take my chances, but this Davey Crockett?.......... Very fundamental and touching story.
